What is Acupuncture?

Based upon over 2000 years of observation, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) acupuncture is an ancient therapy. TCM acupuncturists focus on realigning imbalances within the body using tiny needles. TCM acupuncturists assess the bodies Qi (vital energy), Yin & Yang and and prescribe a 'point combination' based upon an appropriate diagnosis. There are 12 meridians running along the body and acupuncturists use 'points' along these meridians to rebalance the body and treat disharmonies. TCM acupuncture is rooted in core principles and acts as a facilitator for your body to realign itself.

How Can Acupuncture Help Me?

Acupuncture can help a number of conditions including back pain, musculoskeletal injuries, fertility issues, menopause, PMS & irregular periods, migraine, asthma, hay fever, digestive issues and stress. The British Acupuncture Council lists a number of conditions that acupuncture can help alongside validated research - British Acupuncture Council Research Fact Sheet.

What Happens in an Acupuncture Treatment?

Your first acupuncture treatment will begin with a discussion around your medical history, lifestyle and reason for attending. This will typically last 30-45 minutes. After making their diagnosis, the acupuncturist will insert between 10-15 tiny needles into 'points' along your body whilst you relax on the treatment couch. Any follow up treatments will be shorter in length.
