What is HOMEOPATHY?
Homeopathy is a holistic medicine which uses specially prepared, highly diluted substances with the aim of triggering the body’s own healing mechanisms. It is based on the principle of “like treats like” or “similars” – that is, a substance which can cause symptoms when taken in large doses, can be used in minute amounts to treat similar symptoms. For example, drinking too much coffee can cause sleeplessness and agitation, so according to this principle, when made into a homeopathic medicine, it could be used to treat people suffering from sleeplessness and agitation.
Homeopathy was discovered by a German doctor, Samuel Hahnemann, who was searching for a way to reduce the damaging side effects associated with the medical treatment of his day, which included the use of poisons. He began experimenting on himself and a group of healthy volunteers, giving smaller and smaller medicinal doses, discovering that as well as reducing toxicity, the medicines became more effective as the doses were lowered. Homeopathy has been adopted by many holistic practitioners with success.
What CAN Homeopathy HELP?
Homeopathy can assist both chronic and acute conditions. The gentle effect of homeopathic remedies can provide good support for many conditions including anxiety, stress, mental-emotional disharmonies, sleep disturbances, digestive imbalances and menopausal symptoms. Homeopathy can also assist children’s complaints such as eczema, allergies and hayfever. On their website, the British Homeopathic Association discusses evidence and research into the effectiveness of homeopathy for certain conditions.
What HAPPENS IN A HOMEOPATHIC CONSULTATION?
Homeopathic consultations in themselves, are therapeutic. Our practitioners will get to know you over time, often starting with the immediate presenting condition and subsequently looking at a more constitutional approach. A first consultation will typically last 1.5 hours after which you will be able to take away your first set of remedies.
